The Brits on holiday are often a sight to behold, and truth be told we haven't always given ourselves the best reputation when it comes to holidaying abroad! The traditional - if perhaps unfair - image of British holidaymakers includes loud lager louts being rowdy in beach resorts and failing to respect local customs, Brits who insist on only eating fish and chips and having ketchup on everything with their meals - rather than enjoying local foods and specialties, and the classic trait of our nation - speaking extra loudly and slowly (in English!) when faced with a local who doesn't speak our language! It's no wonder that there are some nationalities that aren't particularly keen on being faced with The Brit contingent abroad! Spain has become very used to hordes of British visitors - and France too - and many Brits have settled in these places in entire enclaves! The locals have become less keen as the Brits swarmed in over the last few years with the strong Pound and started buying up properties! The French particularly have traditionally found the Brits impossible for ordering tomato ketchup and strong tea with all their food - outrageous behaviour in the eyes of French gastronomes! Arabic countries are not always keen on western visitors either- places like Dubai which are renowned for being decadent are a different kettle of fish, but noisy, drunk and half dressed Brit tourists aren't a welcome sight in much of the traditional Islamic world! Equally, countries which have hosted Brit travellers during football competitions aren't always keen on their bawdy habits and tendency to start fighting or singing in the streets - sleepy European towns or smart and chic European cities spring to mind!
