1.8 Million Holiday Hours Wasted Looking For A Sunbed Each Year!

1.8 million holiday hours wasted looking for a sunbed each year!

How many hours do you think you have wasted over the course of your summer holiday looking for a sunbed? Well according to fresh research, holidaymakers will spend over 1.8 million hours of holiday time each year looking for a sunbed!

The study also revealed that the number of towels holidaymakers will lay down to reserve sun beds this summer will cover an area more than three times the size of Disneyland.

Although, we shouldn't sound too surprised as the study asked holidaymakers what they expected when they jet off on holiday, and the majority of us said that we expected to spend a lot of time searching for a spare sunbed due to the amount of pre-reserved ones.

However, us Brits aren't going into the holiday sunbed war unaware anymore! With many crafty British tourists are inventing their own sunbed strategies! For example, the study reveals that nearly one million British holidaymakers pack extra towels to improve their chances of getting a bed, whilst another 370,000 confessed to giving someone money to ensure they got their hands on a sunbed.

Furthermore, 4.8 million admitted that they had used the towel reserve tactic themselves. Meanwhile, another nine per cent had asked a friend or family member to do their dirty work for them, and two per cent, admitted to sending their children to reserve sunbeds.

The study also revealed that fifteen percent of holidaymakers had got up as early as 5am to secure their poolside sunbed spot. Yet, this effort is often in vain, as almost 1.5 million holidaymakers reported having had their towel removed from a sun lounger, with nearly 750,000 saying they discovered it thrown in the pool or sea, which has obviously led to many an argument and tussle between holidaymakers.

In a way to try and ease the ongoing sun bed war between holidaymakers, one major holiday firm is now trying out their new 'sunbed security option' at a number of their resorts around the world. The idea is in the form of a 'sunbed sitter' who will lay reserved towels on poolside sunbeds, and then stand by them until the holidaymaker comes down. The 'sitter' will also ensure that the sun loungers are positioned at the perfect angle for sunbathing throughout the day.
