Heron Island lies on the Tropic of Capricorn, 72 kms north-east, off the coast from Gladstone from central Queensland. The flight time from Brisbane to Gladstone is approximately 80 minutes. There is a courtesy coach which departs from Gladstone airport daily at 10:30 am to Gladstone Marina to connect with the Heron Island airconditioned launch, which takes 2 hours.

Shearwater Restaurant is on the ground floor level and ajoins the pool area. The Pandanus Lounge and Bar caters for light snacks and provides nightly entertainment.
