George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD)

George Best Belfast City Airport, named after the famous Northern Irish professional footballer who was arguably one of the greatest players of all time, was originally named Belfast Harbour Airport. It houses six airlines which transport almost three million passengers per year across destinations in Ireland, the UK and Europe.

The renaming of the airport, on what would have been George Best's 60th birthday, caused controversy, with the media highlighting the split feelings of the local community after a radio station poll revealed that 48 per cent of city residents were opposed to the change.

How to get to the airport by car, coach, taxi or train

By Car or Taxi

Belfast City Airport is located on the A2 between Belfast and Holywood, and is signposted on approach from the M1 or M2.

By Bus

The Airport Express 600 service dispatches buses every half hour during peak times from the front of the building.

By Train

Sydenham train station offers a shuttle bus service to and from the terminal.

If you park at Belfast City Airport's short or long stay official car parks, you'll be able to reach the terminal within a mere 10 minute walk. All car park options have CCTV in operation and are monitored during regular security patrols.
