Always an exciting time of the year when you have little ones, Halloween holidays are becoming more and more popular amongst families looking to add some extra thrill to their October 31st celebrations. But where in the world can you go with youngsters to ensure an exciting break away full of the right level of fright?

Just a short trip over from the UK and easily accessible by plane, train or car, Disneyland Paris is always awash with magic, and during the month of October it really comes into its own. All of the famous Disney villains will be found sneaking around the park, whilst heroes and heroines don extraordinary Halloween-themed costumes ready to pose for snaps, and don’t forget to check out the terrifyingly fun rides and deliciously spooky treats for a trip to remember.
Visit the Phantom Manor to see if you’re brave enough to discover what lurks inside and remember to look out for the various parades, specially adorned in spooky décor with all your favourite characters in tow.
You don’t have to venture abroad to enjoy a spooky getaway! Thorpe Park resort is home to the UK’s premier Halloween event, with a Fright Nights Fearstival day pass available from £42. You can expect a chilling environment throughout the park, before enjoying some of Europe’s most thrilling rides, including the fastest roller coaster in the UK and the world’s first ten looping coaster, as well as the ever popular SAW – The Ride.
For the younger ones, there is a special child-friendly area with smaller rides and experiences, and turning your visit into an overnight stay will save a bit of cash as it includes two days of park entry with the second free, free parking, free WiFi and breakfast included.
Another destination very easily reachable via air or sea from the UK, Ireland’s capital city of Dublin turns into a spooky setting during its Halloween celebrations, with eerie walks and cycles to parades and concerts, all type of thrill-seekers are catered for. The best family activity is arguably the Spooktacular Cycle, a fun-filled event ideal for those of all ages, hearing stories as you pedal around the park, and complete with a scavenger hunt for the kids to add to the excitement of it all.
There’s also a Halloween mask making workshop, roller disco and ‘Spooktacular Boo’ at Dublin Zoo, which is an experience that offers families to enjoy spine-chilling keeper talks, arts and crafts sessions, face painting and scary music themed for the occasion.
Usually seen as a summery destination perfect for that combination of a beach break in the city, Barcelona turns Halloween heavy in the lead up to October 31st. It’s a multicultural place with many traditions and lots of Gothic architecture, and features a host of fancy parties and outdoor music festivalsat the beach, as well as family-friendly shows arranged in the amazing PortAventura amusement park.
Not only that, Barcelona also celebrates La Castanyada (or the ‘Chesnut Festival’ to you and us!) on 1st November, with the famous Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead in English) also commemorated, including a stream of cultural events, street fairs and goods.
