4 Unique UK Breaks To Take This Year

With staycations becoming increasingly popular, there has been a rise in quirky and unique places to stay whilst you explore all the UK has to offer. From converted campers to lighthouses, there’s no shortage of different accommodation to add something a little different to your holidays.

If you’re looking for a unique stay, check out this list of four unique accommodations across the country…

1. Converted Prison, Oxford

A night in the cells might not sound like a great break, but don’t worry as the Malmaison in Oxford is no longer a prison but a 4-star hotel! Many of the original features have been maintained, such as cell doors, the walkways and the stairs. Not only that but each of the cells has been transformed into luxury rooms for guests.

2. Port Lympne, Kent

A safari in the UK, we hear you cry! No, we haven’t gone mad, you can actually stay on a reserve in the UK that’s packed with endangered animals – the hotel is actually a conservation effort and the animals come first and foremost. At Port Lympne Hotel and Reserve, you can stay in a Tiger Lodge and wake up to tigers right outside your window.

If that seems a little too scary then maybe a bubble is for you? Each ‘bubble’ offers 180-degree views and overlook the bear enclosures on the reserve. Alongside the hotel there is the wildlife park which is home to over 700 animals including giraffes, rhinos, gorillas, painted dogs, lions, gibbons and so many more species.

3. Fisherton Farms Vintage Vardos, Devon

Fisherton Farms offers guest the quirky opportunity to sleep in a restored Gypsy caravan in a beautiful countryside setting. Each of the three caravans have beautiful interiors, original woodwork and can sleep up to two adults and two children.

Situated in Devon in a camp setting, you can really take advantage of slow living by cooking on a campfire, visiting the farm animals nearby and eating outside under the blue skies.

4. Pigeon Door Bus Camping, Shropshire

Ever fallen asleep on the bus commute to work? Well, now you can catch some shut eye on a bus without the fear of missing your stop! Pigeon Door offer a unique stay in their three converted busses. Our favourite is a 1981 Leyland Atlantean called Besty Blue – with stunning views across Shrewsbury and a cute and cosy feel inside, you can tell why we love it.
