5 Reasons You Should Visit Australia This Winter

With the dark winter nights setting in and the start date of ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! 2019 fast-approaching, we thought we'd give you even more of an excuse to add Australia to your holiday bucket list and tempt you to enjoy some winter sun Down Under.

The Weather

'Australia' and 'winter' are two words you normally don’t see in the same sentence as winter there is not *really* winter. Better yet, during the British winter, Australia is actually enjoying its summertime that runs from December to the end of February.

The Beaches

With more than 10,000 soft sand beaches gracing its shores, Australia is a haven for sun worshippers, families and surfers. In fact, the beaches here are so stunning that an incredible 90% of Australians live on the coast.

While beaches like the iconic crescent-shaped Bondi Beach are famous for their white sand and big waves, there are also long stretches of deserted beaches in Far North Queensland that are well worth the trip. Whichever beach you want to explore, be sure to visit on Christmas Day to see locals and tourists alike enjoying barbecues.

The Wildlife

From cuddly marsupials to a huge variety of birds, Austrian wildlife is among the most diverse in the world, especially when it comes to the platypus. To see the animals with your own eyes, get active and spot them in the wild off your own back or with a guide, volunteer at a farm or sanctuary, or visit a local zoo.

The Adventure

Few places on the planet rival Australia for its spirit of adventure thanks to its unique variety of different landscapes, including urban areas, mountain ranges, deserts and rain forests. From diving on the Great Barrier Reef or exploring the outback to riding the Horizontal Falls or driving the Great Ocean Road, you won't be short of unforgettable things to do here.

Even the cities offer their own unique adventures, including Sydney where you can climb to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge for the breathtaking views.

The Atmosphere

The people of Australia are known for being laid back, but they also know how to party. Their New Year's Eve/Day celebrations are known across the lands, thanks to the amazing atmosphere as well as a spectacular light show and firework extravaganza set off from the Sydney Opera House.
