Following the end of full lockdown across the globe a few months ago, the government released a list of countries to have a travel corridor with the UK which has been frequently updated throughout the summer period and continues to be regularly looked at.
What this means is that tourists travelling to any of the destinations on said list for that much-desired getaway would not need to undertake 14 days of self-isolation upon returning back to these shores.
Various popular holiday hotspots have been added to and taken off the list in recent times, with the likes of Spain, Portugal, France and Turkey currently not named on there which has led to a surge in demand for holidays to Greece, as would-be travellers look to enjoy a dreamy break away without the need to isolate for two weeks afterwards.
A handful of Greek islands were already included, and it was announced yesterday that five more will be placed on the UK’s quarantine free list, those being Lesbos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos and Zakynthos (Zante). This is set to come into place from 4am on Saturday 10th October and follows a decrease in COVID-19 cases.
After this news was conveyed during Thursday afternoon’s announcement, searches on icelolly.com to Zante increased by 200% compared to the previous day, whilst Santorini soared a whopping 627%. Other Greek islands which were already quarantine free also saw a large uplift in interest amongst our users, with Rhodes and Kos benefitting from an increase or more than 60%, whilst the majority of demand appears to be for last minute trips, as 80% of searches for Greece holidays were based on departure in October.
