Ever seen a photo of a perfect beach in a far-flung country and wished you were there? You know the ones; they’re usually posted online by your friends, complete with bronzed legs and a deliberately smug hashtag.
We generally assume that these beautiful locations are so luxurious and exotic that they will be forever out of our reach, but did you know that some of them are right here in the UK? The results are in for TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards 2014, and a British beach has been voted one of the top ten beaches in the world.
The lucky location is Rhossili Bay in Wales, beating Playa Norte in Mexico to claim ninth place alongside beaches in exotic locations including Brazil, Mexico, Hawaii and the Seychelles.
TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Beaches in the World
1. Baia do Sancho, Brazil 2. Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos 3. Flamenco Beach, Puerto Rico 4. Rabbit Beach, Lampedusa Island, Italy 5. Whitehaven Beach, Australia 6. It’s not hard to see what has gained Rhossili Bay so much attention. This 3-mile stretch of sand creates a striking impression, its white sand contrasting beautifully with the clear, blue waters that lap at its shore. The beach offers sweeping views of the Welsh coastline, and on a clear day Devon is visible across the sea.
This year, head to Rhossili Bay for the perfect holiday photo…
This award is great news for our Facebook timelines and Instagram accounts. Ideally we’d probably all prefer to be jetting off to the Caribbean rather than staying on home turf, but now even the cash-strapped among us can brag on a budget at this beautiful spot. We all know that Wales isn’t exactly a year-round destination, but a visit between July and September will yield great photos that will leave your friends and family demanding to know where you’ve jetted off to. So what are you waiting for? Head to Rhossili Bay and get snapping…
