Miami – The Magic City

Beautiful weather, picture-perfect beaches and premium properties galore, Miami is well-deserving of its “Magic City” title. Playground of the rich and famous, the city is the perfect place for celebrity spotting, and rubbing shoulders with the who’s-who of Hollywood on their holidays.

From film stars to music producers, Miami has long been the go-to holiday destination for celebrities- Simon Cowell is a famous resident, and his Miami mansion was featured on the X Factor. Shakira, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Sylvester Stallone own properties in the city, while Jay-Z, Madonna and Leonardo Dicaprio are just a few of the celebrities who are regularly spotted here.

Here’s a guide to achieving the ultimate celebrity lifestyle in Miami, and where to go to spot your favourite star…

By Day

Lincoln Road is the ideal place to sip an ice-cold drink and do a spot of people watching. If you’re lucky, you might just see the likes of the Kardashians, Naomi Campbell or Matt Damon stroll past you. Miami has some of the world’s best beaches and for glamour, star-studded South Beach is unlike any other. Affectionately nicknamed “SoBe” by locals, here you’ll find plenty of celebrities shunning the paparazzi in their sunglasses and lazing by the crystal clear waters. Make like Cameron Diaz and try surf lessons or sit back on the luxurious loungers and top up your tan.

Some stars are often spotted jogging in nearby Lummus Park, too- the ideal spot to get lunch and watch the wealthy world go by. Explore the famous Ocean Drive and be sure to buy brunch at the Front Porch Café- try the French toast, plenty of celebrities stop off here to refuel after their morning workouts!

Shopping

Florida’s fashion elite head to the designer boutiques at Bal Harbour to splash their cash. If your budget won’t stretch to million-dollar diamonds and hot-off-the-catwalk clothes, head to downtown Miami, a quieter district where a lot of young singers and TV presenters are often spotted buying vintage jewellery or quirky furniture at Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach. Head to C- Madeleine’s vintage store where the likes of music producer Pharrell Williams and actress Drew Barrymore have been spotted picking out original pieces. Fashion stylists Rachel Zoe and BIBA Founder Barbara Hulanicki are regularly seen shopping for celeb clients here.

Nightlife

For night time celebrity spotting, head to the über-glamourous South Beach. The who’s who of celebrities head to the many bars and nightclubs in the exclusive district. LIV in the Fontainebleu district, is famed for its lively themed nights. As many stars stay at the high-end hotels, you’re likely to fall lucky with a bit of star-spotting if you visit one of their bars- the Setai Miami Beach has entertained the likes of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. The Florida Room nightclub at the Delano was designed by Lenny Kravitz and is loved by some of America’s hottest stars- think Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé and Jay-Z among others.

Eating out

For fantastic food and the chance to catch a global superstar, check out Prime 112. Miami’s famous steakhouse is the chomping ground of choice for the likes of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Enrique Iglesias and Anna Kournikova. Simon Cowell wines and dines famous friends at Mr Chow restaurant in Miami Beach.

For smaller budgets- and appetites!- head for Beyoncé’s favourite fast-food joint, Cheeseburger Baby. Or for something healthier, make like Mariah Carey and head for Mexican light-bites at Mercadito’s.

Miami Carnaval & Calle Ocho

If you’re lucky enough to visit in the springtime, you might just catch the city’s Latin American carnival in all its colourful glory. Latin American dancers, parades and street performers flock to the city, attracting huge crowds. Supported by big-name Latin American artists such as Sean Paul, as well as up-and-coming performers from local neighbourhoods, Carnaval is great to experience.

With all of its glamour and cultural diversity, the Magic City has become many a Hollywood star’s holiday home-from-home, and it’s easy to see why with such amazing weather, scenery and style.
