It’s that time of year again. Time to pick out a spot on the sofa, get the snacks in and watch a seemingly never-ending line-up of countries sing for the chance to be crowned winner of the latest Eurovision Song Contest. From cheesy tunes and catchy choruses to sarcy commentary and questionable outfits, you can be sure an entertaining evening full of fun lies in store.

With so many areas of the continent involved, it’s only natural that your holiday juices will be flowing, and cravings for that next European adventure are a dead cert. But which of the 26 qualified countries are best for taking a well-earned break?

We’ve ranked each based on their ‘holiday factor’, so read on to discover the ultimate 2018 Eurovision-inspired getaway…

Albania

Holiday factor: 3/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 24/26

Not necessarily a typical holiday hotspot, thoughts of a future trip to Albania might not be too high on your wishlist, though with cheap ski resorts and its pretty capital city of Tirana, you certainly shouldn’t completely discount it.

Australia

Holiday factor: 9/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 4/26

We know what you’re thinking…’Australia’s not in Europe!?’. That’s true, and we’re not really sure how they’ve qualified but one thing we do know is that a journey down under makes for one pretty special holiday.

It gets close to a perfect 10 from us, the only downside being the sheer time it takes to actually get there, though the weather, views and experiences certainly make up for that.

Austria

Holiday factor: 7/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 11/26

With an abundance of picturesque ski sites waiting to be tried out and stunning cities including Vienna, Salzburg and Graz ready to be explored, this landlocked country encompasses no end of natural beauty.

Skyline Of Vienna

Bulgaria

Holiday factor: 8/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 8/26

Similar to Austria in terms of its holiday type offerings, Bulgarian trips include city breaks, ski trips and the added bonus of coastal getaways. Not to mention the cheap prices which keep tourists coming back for more.

Cyprus

Holiday factor: 8/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 9/26

Another great source of cost-effective sunshine, Cyprus offers the perfect European jolly for families and groups alike.

Beach In Cyprus

Czech Republic

Holiday factor: 6/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 16/26

The Czech Republic’s hugely popular capital Prague has long been popular for group holiday breaks and those looking to book a cultural trip. Its other cities are not quite as travelled to and the country isn’t particularly known for being warm so be sure to wrap up.

Denmark

Holiday factor: 7/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 13/26

Capital city Copenhagen is always a hit with tourists and the appealing flight time from the UK is certainly a large pull for holidaymakers. As with the Czech Republic, be prepared to put the layers on if travelling during winter.

Estonia

Holiday factor: 6/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 19/26

Just a short boat ride away from nearby Finland, Estonia breaks come with the opportunity to experience two holidays in one. Be sure to visit Tallinn at Christmas time, when the Yuletide decorations and stalls will leave you feeling suitably festive.

Finland

Holiday factor: 6/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 18/26

See previous description…swapping out Tallinn for Helsinki, of course!

France

Holiday factor: 9/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 6/26

The multitude of holiday options available in France make it a firm favourite for tourists all across Europe, offering camping trips, gorgeous coastlines, beautiful cities, highly advanced ski resorts and Disneyland breaks. The short flight distance also means you don’t cut into that much-needed vacay time.

Longshot Of Eiffel Tower

Germany

Holiday factor: 9/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 5/26

Again just a short distance from the UK and with numerous cheap flight options available, Germany city breaks in particular have long been highly popular for short trips. The whole country goes Chrimbo mad in December, so if festive fun is a bit of you, make sure to add it to your bucket list.

Christmas Market In Germany

Hungary

Holiday factor: 6/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 17/26

Budapest is famed for its unique Szechenyi Thermal Bath, offering visitors a warm dip to relax after a day on their feet. It’s also handy in winter when the weather turns cooler.

Ireland

Holiday factor: 6/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 15/26

Stag and hen groups as well as couples and families can be seen in their numbers throughout Dublin, a city that has always been a huge hit for tourists. Other areas aren’t as popular however and the persistent wet weather makes topping up that tan an unfortunately unrealistic target.

Israel

Holiday factor: 3/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 25/26

Home to some well-known religious sites, Israel is generally considered more of a historical destination as opposed to a typical holiday hotspot.

Italy

Holiday factor: 10/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 3/26

You really can have it all with Italy holidays. Amazing cities, coastlines and ski slopes, as well as its beautiful islands and handy cruise ports, make The Boot an incredibly popular country for a hard-earned holiday.

Cinque Terre Coastline

Lithuania

Holiday factor: 4/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 23/26

Not the most typical holiday destination with tourists, cities Vilnius and Kaunas do however provide a different short break option to those you perhaps may be more accustomed to.

Moldova

Holiday factor: 2/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 26/26

Certainly not a traditional travel hotspot, Moldova will be hoping its 2018 Eurovision performance fairs better than its holiday factor!

The Netherlands

Holiday factor: 7/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 10/26

Boasting an array of pretty cities, a break to the Netherlands is ideal for those looking to spend time on their feet. Amsterdam is the most popular, whilst other areas including Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Utrecht are similarly tempting options for tourists.

Norway

Holiday factor: 7/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 14/26

Known for being a tad on the expensive side, you shouldn’t let that put you off from a visit to this sublime section of Scandinavia. Capital Oslo is the most visited city, though we’d also recommend a trip to Svalbard for the chance to catch a glimpse of the amazing Northern Lights.

Portugal

Holiday factor: 10/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 2/26

Another that gets full marks from us in terms of its holiday factor, and it’s not hard to see why. With gorgeous beaches, beautiful weather, stunning cities and a rather convenient time zone, Portugal competes with the very best in Europe.

Oh, and it’s also this year’s Eurovision host nation!

Beach In The Algarve, Portugal

Serbia

Holiday factor: 5/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 21/26

Belgrade is by far the most commonly travelled to Serbian city, and relatively popular with stag trips, though other prominent tourist spots are generally quite hard to come by.

Slovenia

Holiday factor: 6/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 20/26

Penciling in a trip to Lake Bled is a must during any holiday in Slovenia, and that’s just one of a host of pretty sites and settings.

Spain

Holiday factor: 10/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 1/26

If we could award more than ten, we would! Spain is regularly one of the most visited countries worldwide and has always been a hit with UK holidaymakers. Offering copious coastline resorts, cultural cities, cruise routes and even ski breaks, you’re sure to find a special Spanish getaway.

Beach In Spain

Sweden

Holiday factor: 7/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 12/26

The ideal destination for a good-looking city break, Stockholm is home to most of the country’s main sites and attractions, though Gothenburg, Malmo and Helsingborg provide more than competitive alternatives.

Ukraine

Holiday factor: 4/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 22/26

Another not the most popular with UK tourists, the city of Kiev in particular still manages to lure holidaymakers in and is known for its religious architecture.

United Kingdom

Holiday factor: 8/10

Where it ranks against the other Eurovision countries: 7/26

Sometimes, there’s no place quite like home. We may not traditionally do that well in Eurovision, but we’re not bad for a little staycation. From the adventure of camping and glamping to the fast-paced lifestyle in London and chilled out cottage break vibes, your next perfect holiday could be waiting for you on these shores.
