Top 5 tips for booking the perfect honeymoon abroad

There are many exciting aspects to getting married, and booking your honeymoon is definitely one of them. Having something to look forward to after the big day, when all the hustle and bustle finally starts to die down makes it extra special. There's no need to add any extra pressure onto yourself, either as booking your honeymoon should be a more than enjoyable experience.

Of course there's something extra special about this trip away, as it's those tranquil few days that will be spent making some of the most majestic and memorable days of your lives together.

This is why we've come up with some of the top most important tips when considering your honeymoon, to ensure everything goes smoothly and that you're able to treasure it forever.

Where to spend it.

Try not to listen to those who have already had their honeymoon, as only you will know exactly what's right. Try to think about what you'd really like to get out of it, even if it's something you thought you'd never get to do. Consider both of your characteristics and personalities when considering a destination. It's important to choose a place where's there's something to cater for each of you. Try not to opt for the typical honeymoon destinations either, as you may later remember that you could have spent the same amount of money visiting somewhere you've always wanted to since being a child, even if that's a city break. There are many factors to consider when choosing a place to visit too, such as what you will do once you're there, how long it will be for and what makes that specific place unique to both yourself and your other half.

When to do it.

When thinking about your honeymoon, you will need to plan in advance to ensure you've got everything in place, and one of the major things you'll need to think about is when to go. Are you happy to leave everybody to party and jet off the same night as your wedding? The day after? Or even a month after the wedding? Remember to consider any work commitments or childcare responsibilities too, as the last thing you want to do is be worrying when you jet off abroad. And say you have decided on when and where to go, is that place going to be hot like you wanted it to be? Will there be enough snow in the alps for you to ski there at this time of year? By looking into the temperatures and activities happening in that destination at the time will help you make a faster and easier decision. You may even find that a year later works about better for you for various reasons such as money or time.

Do your research.

There is nothing worse than choosing or booking your holiday to find that somewhere else was offering the same for a cheaper amount, or that the reviews are terrible for the hotel you've just booked, never mind if it was your honeymoon! The great thing about looking on-line and using bridal magazines for both personal stories and inspiration is that you're able to access a world of ideas, and you'll easily be able to see what's hot and what isn’t. Even if you do have your heart set on one specific place, ensuring that you know the ins and outs of what to expect will avoid any disappointed and will only bring you more joy of knowing you'll have an excellent time. There's nothing more worthy than a personal review, remember that, and always check back after getting a few quotes.

Consider your budget.

Whether you have £100 or £1000; always be careful. There's a great amount of offers out there now that will offer you great value for money to exotic islands. For those with a smaller budget, but would really like to have a dream-like experience, you could maybe consider having a shorter honeymoon rather than a full week, to cut costs yet still have an amazing time away. If you're lucky enough to have a big budget and don't really know what to do with it, why not spend it in a few different places? You could even save a little to ensure that you can go for a lovely meal a week after you get back, again to have a moment to yourselves. It's also good to remember that the little things matter... Perhaps book a hotel that offers an inside spa, a la carte meals and towel art each morning. You could even find a hotel that will allow you to pay for an upgraded room once you get there, so if you have a little extra left over you can easily surprise him/ her.

Be prepared.

We know that there are various destinations chosen for honeymoons that we'd never normally go to, and I don't know about you but I didn't even know where half of them are, just that they look fabulous! Because of this, you'll need to make sure you know exactly what to take with you. Make sure you check that your passport is in date, and how much validity you will need on it to travel there too. You may even need to get certain jabs and injections to avoid getting nasty bites or diseases once you travel.

So go on, make it an experience you will never be able to forget!
