Often overlooked due to its lack of beach, it’s fair to say that Austria is seriously underrated as a tourist destination. Between the cultural cities of Salzburg and Vienna and the scenic beauty of the snow-capped Alps, Austria holidays have you covered. With such breathtaking scenery, it’s no surprise that Austria has become the setting for many iconic films, including the legendary musical ‘The Sound of Music’.
Austria’s cities are major hubs of classical European culture. One particular highlight is the Salzburg Festival of Classical Music and Drama which takes place every year from the end of July into the beginning of August. The festival draws people from all around the world to the city where Mozart himself was born. Skiing is obviously a major draw to Austria but summer trips to the Austrian Alps are becoming increasingly popular.
Austria has a great hearty cuisine. Like their German neighbours to the north, Austrians love their pork, meaning tasty sausage sandwiches are never far away. To wash it down you will be spoilt for choice between fine local lagers and fantastic wine grown in the gentle foothills of the Alps. In the larger cities, you will find an even greater choice of wines, beers and spirits, catering for both party-animals and budding connoisseurs.
