Hong Kong Island, a frantic, busy, city that will leave you feeling exhilarated and desperate to come back time after time. With one of the most recognisable skylines in the world, Hong Kong Island is where all the magic happens and as you wander through the streets, climb up the hills and discover the national parks, you’ll find that Hong Kong Island is not just a city of skyscrapers but an amazing destination you’ll remember for years to come.
This list is potentially endless. You can shop ‘til you drop in Hong Kong or laze about for the day on a “junk” boat where you can grab your friends and sail around the more remote parts of Hong Kong. Alternatively, hop on a tram up to The Peak for a bird’s eye view of Hong Kong’s skyscrapers and if you’re here on a Wednesday night go to Happy Valley to watch some exciting horse racing.
Being one of the world’s mega cities, Hong Kong Island definitely doesn’t disappoint in the food scene. You can find any kind of food you want here but don’t leave without trying traditional dim sum, egg waffles, or any kind of noodles. Hong Kong also knows how to party with Lan Kwai Fong being the place to eat and drink but for a chilled night, go to Red Bar in the IFC for amazing views of Victoria Harbour.
If the city does get too much, hop on a ferry to the nearby Lamma Island. This small island with no cars is only 30 minutes away but you’ll feel in a completely different world. There are little cafes and restaurants with a real local feel and some great beaches to spend the day on. Hong Kong Island’s Aberdeen Country Park is also a great rural place, perfect for hiking in the countryside!
