A family resort nestled in the southern area of the Costa Brava, Santa Susanna has become a favourite for those wanting a relaxing break away with the little ones. Popular activities for families include catching the tourist train and grabbing an ice cream to enjoy on the beach. Mini explorers with also love horse riding and walking through the National Park that sits on Santa Susanna’s doorstep.
Kids will love the mini beach club with inflatable castles and foam pits next to Dunes Beach. For a day on the water though, hop on a boat for the day to take in the wild and rocky sights of the Costa Brava. Some boats even have a glass bottom so you can spot the underwater wildlife! If you prefer to be in the water rather than on it, rent a snorkelling set from the beach!
The promenade that runs behind the 2km beach of Santa Susanna is one of the main places to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. This international string of restaurants and cafes runs into the neighbouring town of Malgrat which also happens to provide a livelier night out than Santa Susanna. If it’s just a nice meal you’re after though, the locals serve up a delicious lobster and chicken dish which is popular in this area.
Santa Susanna is a resort that’s proud of its past. Beautiful churches, such as Chapel of Christ Balasch, are dotted around the town and ancient watchtowers which guarded the resort against pirate attacks in the 15th century are still standing around Santa Susanna today, one of which is the train station! For a taste of the outdoors, Massif Montnegre National Park, a wooded and mountainous area, provides plenty of space for shaded walks through Santa Susanna’s countryside.
