Just a short drive from Heraklion, Hersonissos is one of the largest resorts in Crete and a popular choice among young groups looking for a clubbing holiday. A large and busy town, Hersonissos has been developed for the tourists and is well equipped with bars, restaurants and shops for an entertaining sun holiday. The resort has its own aquarium, and other nearby towns make great day trip options.
There are plenty of fun things to do near Hersonissos; both of Crete’s waterparks – Aqua Plus and Watercity – are within a 30-minute drive of the resort, and Aquaworld Aquarium makes a fun day out for all the family. The island’s capital Heraklion is a great option for a day out, boasting fascinating museums, ancient ruins and a great nightlife, and Hersonissos is well placed to explore the rest of the island.
Hersonissos has three beautiful beaches where visitors flock in the summer to soak up the rays. Golden sand stretches as far as the eye can see, and the main beach has sun loungers available to hire and beach bars where you can get a refreshing drink. A range of water activities are also available, including jet skiing, snorkelling and banana boats, and quiet coves can be found for a day away from the crowds.
Hersonissos really comes alive after dark, with clubs around the waterfront playing house and chart music until the early hours of the morning and often hosting world-famous DJs. There’s the opportunity for a night of fun in a karaoke bar, or you can find a relaxed taverna in the back streets to enjoy a quiet drink. Irish pubs are also popular in Hersonissos, and often have live bands playing.
