What used to be a small fishing village is now a seaside resort that’s modern and open to holidaymakers from around the world. With lively bars and tavernas lining the street and a long beach perfect for passing the day on, Skala is a great holiday destination for those looking for a relaxing break in the sun with a bit of culture and fun thrown in for good measure.
If beautiful beaches aren’t enough to keep you entertained during your holiday, you’ll be glad to know there’s a lot to do in Skala. An 8 km walk along the coastline will take you to the nearby town of Poros and up in the hills, there’s the old village of Skala. Walk up the hill from Skala and you’ll see this ancient site comes complete with the remains of the 7th Century Temple of Apollo.
Skala’s main beach is a mixture of fine shingle and sand and at 3km long, there is plenty of space for everyone, even in the summer season. For those that want an adrenaline rush, jet skis are available or why not see Skala from a bird’s eye view and have a go at paragliding! If you want to take it easy though, spend the day in the sun or venture to Potamaki Beach where loggerhead turtles nest.
The main street, which leads right to the beach, is home to bars and tavernas that come alive in the evening when live music can be heard from the open-fronted restaurants. Live bands play through the night but if you want to dance the night away there is an open-air club on the road to Poros. For a more chilled out evening, why not enjoy a cocktail at a bar on the beach?
