With a one mile long beach, countryside to hike through and a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, Anaxos is one place in the Greek Islands that has managed to remain relatively undeveloped. It is growing in popularity but this village on the north coast of Lesbos offers a secluded break away in the sunshine for families and couples that want to get away from busy life for a week or two.
If your inner beach bum wants to explore a little, head into the countryside to try out of Anaxos’ popular trails. There are a lot of rare bird species in Lesbos so who knows what you might spot on a walk through the hills. Back out on the ocean, a day on a catamaran will take you around the coast of Lesbos. Some boats even have glass bottoms so you can see the underwater wildlife.
Anaxos is home to one beach, a one mile stretch of long dark sand and shingle that has plenty of sun loungers for guests to spend the day on. This beach is surrounded by green countryside which makes for a scenic setting and there are a few tavernas dotted along the sand – perfect for a midday snack. Water sports are also available and adventure seekers can try their hand at canoeing, windsurfing, and snorkelling!
Enjoy pizza and meze plates from the beach bars at lunch and in the evening spend a chilled out night in the village. Anaxos is pretty laidback; tavernas play traditional music as the sun sets and delicious Greek food is served at family-run restaurants that have been here for years. If you do fancy a night out, Steve’s Bar is one of the most entertaining spots where old school rock music accompanies chilled-out drinks.
