Dinner time starts at 9pm in Rhodes, so expect your dining experience to carry on into the early hours. Tasty Tavernas can be found on every corner and offer picturesque beachside views as you eat. The award-winning Tamam restaurant, lies in the heart of Old Town of Rhodes and is renowned for offering unique dishes made to their own secret recipes with only the best of ingredients.
The restaurant is quite small and they do not take bookings in advance so you do have to be prepared to wait for a table. Sometimes, you may even have to queue out in the street but if this should happen you are treated to a glass of Sangria while the owner keeps you entertained with his funny banter.
Once inside, you can choose from the extensive menu which has a large selection of vegetarian meals as well all the other dishes. The surf n turf and the chilli prawns with spaghetti are absolutely delicious and the portions are huge.
They also have an extensive wine list and a good selection of beers.
Beachfront bars in the holiday resorts of Rhodes are in a class of their own. Choose from the music-playing, lively bars in Faliraki to the more laid-back bars on the quieter beaches.
The Ostria Beach Bar Rhodes has comfortable seating inside and out and offers a great selection of drinks including cocktails. The barbeque platter is delicious, with plenty of food for two people.
The Ammades Seaside Restaurant & Bar Faliraki has a great choice of food and drinks including various healthy options. Bottled drinks are served in an ice bucket to keep them cold and the DJ plays lively music all day long.
The Beach Kallithea is a very different sort of bar. Embedded into a cave, the bar is nicely decorated and offers surprisingly comfortable seating using cushions. Dance music plays all day and into the night and many parties are held here.

George & Maria Art of Falafel, located in the new town of Rhodes is only a small place but food, wine, and service are fantastic. The meals are delicious, portions are large and prices are cheap. Unusually, George and Maria's daughter hand paints all the wine glasses and has a little stall at the side of the restaurant where you can buy her original hand painted shoes and giftware.
Porca Vacca in the old town of Rhodes serves the biggest and the best breakfast in town. Choose from scrambled eggs, meats with cheeses, olives, tomatoes and peppers followed by fried eggs, yoghurt and honey, bread and croissants with preserves, coffee, and freshly squeezed oranges.
You won't want anything else to eat until the evening.
There are Greek tavernas everywhere in Rhodes and most offer excellent value for money.
The Hatzikeli is a cosy seafood taverna situated in the old town of Rhodes. The meals here are delicious with excellent seafood dishes and mezes. Plates like the smoked aubergine, the shrimps in ouzo sauce, the risotto or the stuffed calamari are unique and scrumptious.
If you are staying in Lalysso then it’s worth trying Kostas Village taverna which has a great atmosphere, a colourful Greek décor and most importantly - great food at a fair price.
The Thomas Taverna in the new town of Rhodes is a family run restaurant where the home-made food is great, especially the dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) pork sausage, seafood platter and the kleftiko, which just oozes with flavour. Thomas the chef and his family run the restaurant and are very friendly and helpful.
There are Harbour Restaurants a-plenty on the island of Rhodes, it’s just a case of which one (or two or three) to choose.
The Alexis 4 seasons restaurant in old town Rhodes has the most beautiful rooftop views of the castle and harbour. The food served here consists mainly of fish, seafood and local specialities served with fresh, seasonal vegetables. They also have an extensive wine list.
The Indigo restaurant is located in the New Market at Mandraki Harbour and is the only true Ouzeria (a Greek tavern that serves ouzo and mezedes) in the area. They also serve a variety of traditional Greek and Turkish dishes.
The Yachting Club Café, situated on the coast road next to Mandraki Harbour offers a breakfast special menu plus snacks throughout the day and a large selection of cakes. The café also serves excellent coffee, cocktails, wine, and beer.
The Ice Bar in Lindos is Greece’s only permanent bar made of ice. The bar is kept at an exhilarating -5°C temperature. On entering, you will be provided with special clothing to keep the frost off while you spend up to 40 minutes in the freezing cold.
Once you have had enough of being cold why not warm up in the adjoining, comfortable, lounge bar and restaurant where you can choose a meal from the wide selection of modern and traditional Greek dishes on offer? The inventive menu is a mix of imaginative and traditional dishes made with seasonal ingredients, complemented by a large and original selection of international wines.
If you don't want to eat you can relax in the lounge bar with a delicious frozen cocktail, enjoying the amazing views of the Lindos Acropolis.
The Platanos Taverna is located in the village of Lachania which is one of the most beautiful villages on the island of Rhodes. It retains its traditional village centre with narrow streets and old-style houses, many of which have been lovingly restored to their former glory.
If you are looking for somewhere where you can really get the feel of Greece this is the place for you.
It serves incredible, made to share, starters such as Pitaroudia which is a chickpea based starter with onions, tomatoes, cumin and seasoning formed into a ball and fried. Main meals are equally delicious and there are vegetarian dishes as well as traditional Greek food. The fish and meat are cooked to order on the grill and is served with a variety of fresh vegetables.
The service is excellent and the staff welcoming and friendly.
Seafood restaurants are a favourite with many of the tourists visiting Rhodes.
Dinoris Fish Restaurant in the old town of Rhodes nestles in one of the many hide-a-ways of the Knights of St. John which was built in 1310 AD. The historical atmosphere of the restaurant makes a splendid venue for the delicious, unique seafood starters and the fresh fish main courses served here.
The Manos Fish Restaurant, overlooking Yialos harbour at Symi serves absolutely marvellous seafood including succulent mussels steamed in white wine and a mixed grill of octopus, squid, prawns, and locally caught fish, all done to perfection over a wood fire.
In a very pretty area of the old town of Rhodes, Nimmos Traditional Restaurant serves very good seafood, fish, and traditional Greek dishes at reasonable prices. This is a lovely place to stop and eat, take in the sights and watch the world go by.
