Grand Baie is Mauritius’ most popular holiday destination, a small village that has quickly grown into a lively tourist resort! The town has many hotels, restaurants and shops, as well as 2 beaches in easy walking distance and a range of watersports. The north of the island is famous for its palm-lined beaches and powdery white sand, making it one of the most scenic locations in Mauritius.
Grand Baie has two beaches, the most central of which is Grand Baie public beach but due to boat traffic, this beach has limited space for swimming. Just a 10-minute walk around the bay is La Cuvette, a much nicer spot with lovely calm water. Keen snorkelers should go to Troux aux Biches – not only is it one of the island’s most beautiful beaches, but coral reefs can be reached easily from the shore.
Grand Baie is a great base for exploring – many excursions depart from here and it’s not far from Port Louis, the island’s capital. The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden is a beautiful place for a leisurely wander, or you can hit the beach for jet skiing or a sailing lesson. Grand Baie is one of Mauritius’ main shopping hubs, with everything from market stalls to shopping centres, and after dark, the parties can last all night.
Mauritius is a great place for kids to discover life under the sea! The aquarium near Grand Baie gives visitors the opportunity to interact with animals in a ‘touch pool’ and watch feeding time, while glass-bottomed boat trips give kids the opportunity to see wildlife in their natural habitat. If you want to get even closer, anyone aged 7 and over can go on an Undersea Walk, wearing a helmet that provides you with air.

Tucked into a sheltered bay, Belle Mere is a haven of tranquil luxury where the only sounds are waves washing against the shore and palm trees rustling in the breeze.
