Playa Taurito is a tiny resort on the south-west coast, a haven of tranquillity consisting of little more than a beach and a handful of hotels. The quiet nature of the resort makes it feel like you’ve discovered your own secret haven, while most visitors opt for the louder and busier Puerto Rico or Maspalomas. A perfect resort for couples and families, Playa Taurito is a great base for exploring Gran Canaria.
One of the beauties of Playa Taurito is that there isn’t much to do except sit back and relax, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some lovely ways to pass the time. The lido is a great place to spend the day, where there’s a lagoon-style swimming pool, waterslides and a fun-filled children’s pool. Buses out of the resort are regular, so you can easily venture to Puerto Mogán, Puerto Rico or Maspalomas for the day.
The beach at Playa Taurito is an eye-catching one, a small stretch of black volcanic sand squashed between two tall cliffs. Sheltered from the wind, the sea at Playa Taurito is consistently calm, making it a safe, pleasant environment for kids to swim and play in the shallows. Water sports and activities are on offer including jet-skiing, banana boat rides and snorkelling, and the beach is backed by numerous cafes, restaurants, and snack bars.
Playa Taurito’s dining scene is very small – most of the restaurants are located in the hotels where great food is enjoyed by all inclusive guests. If you do want to venture out you will find few options other than a few seafood restaurants and some snack bars; for more choice, you should head to the charming nearby village of Puerto Mogán, which is easily and cheaply accessible by bus.
