Overlooking a Spanish cityscape in the heat of summer

Holidays to Malaga

On Malaga holidays in 2025 get ready for sun-blazing, tapas-scoffing, beach-lounging, arty days and party nights in the Costa del Sol’s capital.

From beach flopping to bar hopping

Malaga combines the best bits of a city – buzzy bars, cool neighbourhoods and fun attractions – with the sun and sand of a beach resort. Winner!

If you’re craving time on the sand, the 1,200-metre-long Playa de la Malagueta is where the action is at. Pitch up here to sunbathe, snack, snooze and float away the hours. After a day in the sun, head to the city’s bars and restaurants. The arty Soho neighbourhood is a good place to start.

A golden city of art, history and tapas

Feeling peckish? For the freshest local bites, Mercado Central de Atarazanas is a must. Elsewhere, tapas bars with sunny terraces fill the historic, pedestrianised Centro Histórico – perfect for a chilled afternoon.

A stroll up to the city’s Alcazaba fortress, meanwhile, rewards you with epic sea views framed by Moorish arches, while just below, a Roman amphitheatre awaits. The art scene in Malaga is impressive, too, with street art in Soho and on the walls of the Centre Pompidou. And don’t miss out on a visit to the Museo Picasso Málaga (the legendary artist was born here).

Beaches: Sandy toes guaranteed

With the Costa del Sol’s beaches on your doorstep, it’d be a crime not to test them out on your Malaga holiday! Playa de la Malagueta is the main beach with plenty of sandy sunbathing spots and a pretty promenade for morning jogs (you never know) and evening dinners. For local flavour, pay a visit to Playa de Pedregalejo or El Palo for fishing village charm with plenty of chiringuitos (beach bars). Got little sandcastle builders with you? They will love Playa de Pedregalejo’s playground, colourful fishing boats and shallow waters.

Family fun for toddlers, teens and tweens

Cool city museums, shady parks, sandy beaches – the hard part is choosing what not to do on a family holiday to Malaga. Head to Museo Automovilístico to see vintage vehicles and MIMMA (Interactive Museum of Music Malaga) to make a right ole noise (don’t worry, it’s encouraged). West Park near Playa de la Misericordia is your perfect picnic spot (it even has ducks), while Ruben Alcantara skatepark has boards, skates and bikes to rent. For a full day of splashing about, Aqualand Torremolinos (around a 20-minute drive away) has you covered, while Playa de la Misericordia is a great spot for watersports. When you’ve tired everyone out, grab some churros at the beach and enjoy the literally still and sweet moment!

Nightlife: Get the party started

Malaga’s nightlife is buzzing, with rooftop bars like La Terraza de San Juan perfect for sunset cocktails and chiringuitos serving up grilled espetos (sardines), sangria and more for beachside evenings. Plaza de la Merced is where the action’s at, with a host of cafes and bars to choose from. Elsewhere, the Theatro Club in the Centro Histórico offers late-night cabaret, while Tablao Los Amayas brings the flamenco passion. As for super late-night fun, clubs like La Cabane Beach Club will keep you dancing ‘til dawn.

When to go to Malaga

Pretty much always. With around 300 days of sunshine a year, there’s a Malaga holiday for all seasons.

But if you really want to soak up as much sun as you can, head to the Costa del Sol any time between June and September. Think dreamy beach days with temperatures in the mid-to-late 20s. To miss the crowds and the peakiest of peak prices, plan your getaway for early June or mid- to late-September.

If you’re chasing the winter sun, pack your shades and visit between December and February, when temperatures hover around the mid-teens. This is very much the time for cheap holidays to Malaga. Spring is also a top time to fly out to Malaga, with temperatures usually in the 20s. You can often bag great deals for this time of the year, too.
