Miami’s perpetual sunshine and fast-paced lifestyle have earned it a reputation as an upbeat and youthful city, perfect for a fun-filled holiday by the beach! The city has beautiful stretches of sandy coastline and a great nightlife that makes it a favourite among American spring-breakers. There is more to Miami than sun and parties though.
Culture vultures will find plenty to interest them on a holiday in Miami, from Art Deco architecture to museums and art galleries. Those looking to update their wardrobes will be spoilt for choice in the numerous shopping malls and designer boutiques scattered around the city.
South Beach is the most southern 20 blocks of Miami Beach and is well known for its many eating spots and lively nightlife. Walk along the beautiful white sands for a relaxing day at the beach or head to Ocean Drive if you’re looking for a night on the tiles. This party strip is often frequented by famous faces, so keep your eyes open for those celebs!
Miami isn’t just for the young party-hungry crowd though, it’s also a great destination for a family holiday! Keep the kids happy by spending the day at Miami Zoo or checking out the lifeguard stations along Miami Beach. Alternatively have a fun and educational time at Miami Science Museum! f you’re into sports, watch the famous basketball team Miami Heat compete in one of their games!
Something else you can take advantage of in Miami, apart from the weather, the bars and the beach, are the great shopping opportunities that are available. Take a stroll down Lincoln Road Mall where you can shop to your heart’s content at places like American Apparel, Urban Outfitters and Forever 21. If you’re in Downtown Miami, Bayside Market Place has all the well-known high street shops mixed with individual boutiques. Bayside is also where you can get boat trips to tour around all the islands of Miami – well worth doing if you want to see the kind of homes Will Smith and David Beckham live in!
For an encounter with nature, head to the Everglades National Park which is less than one hour away from Miami. Here you can hop on an airboat and whizz around these tropical wetlands – if you’re lucky, you might even spot an alligator in the depths of the Everglades.
If there’s something that Miami isn’t short of, it’s places to eat and drink. For a lively and cosmopolitan evening where you can sit outside in the warm weather, Lincoln Road Mall has many places to choose from. From Cuban food to Mexican, Italian to Mediterranean, the streets are lined with restaurants and seating areas full of people enjoying a good meal.
For a real cultural experience, head to Little Havana, Miami’s Cuban neighbourhood where you’ll find people playing dominoes in the park and delicious ice cream shops dishing out peanut butter and banana or key lime pie flavour scoops. Fruit stands perch in between cigar shops and restaurants serve up speciality Cuban food. It’s a great place to grab a beer and a bite to eat, then sit back and watch the world go by.
For drinks in the evening, Ocean Drive is the usual place to go to make a good night of it. If you’re looking for a mojito big enough for four, you’re in the right place – and we’re not kidding either, those drinks are huge! End the night at one of Miami’s great clubs – the Clevelander on Ocean Drive is located in the historic art deco district where guests have access to a huge outdoor dance area directly opposite the beach.
