Holidays to Nikiana

Overview

If you’re looking for an island escape full of authentic Greek charm, look no further than Nikiana. This quiet fishing village is slowly gaining popularity as a holiday destination, but as yet it’s still a simple town with very little evidence of tourist development. Despite this, it’s popular with holidaymakers for its idyllic rural surroundings and location close to Lefkas Town. Nikiana also makes a great base for day trips or island hopping.

Things To Do

Although there aren’t many activities offered at the beach, Nikiana has a diving centre where you can book scuba dives and snorkelling trips. For more activities, you can go across the island to Kathisma beach, one of Lefkas’ most developed beaches where you can try a range of water sports or paragliding. If you need a break from the beach, Nikiana has plenty of tavernas where you can sit with a refreshing drink.

Beaches

Nikiana’s beach is the ultimate spot for peace and quiet. Like the town, it’s not as developed as some of Lefkas’ other resorts, so expect fewer sunbeds and facilities. However, you do get a more natural beach experience – bring your beach towel and a picnic and enjoy a day relaxing in the shade of the trees. This beach is popular with families and sits next to the harbour which is a popular stop for yachts.

Day Trips

Nikiana is well-placed for a day trip, just 15 minutes away from the island capital, Lefkas Town. Here you can see traditional buildings and churches, go shopping around the marina, and find a huge choice of restaurants. At the north tip of Lefkas Town is a bridge that connects the island to the mainland, and at the entrance to the bridge is a medieval fortress that was originally built to protect the island from pirates.
